If You’re Making Less Than $100K in Sales, Here’s What You Actually Need to Focus On

As an entrepreneur, hitting the elusive $100K revenue mark can feel like a massive hurdle. You’re working hard, you’re posting on social media, and maybe you’re even outsourcing tasks to save time—but no matter what you do, you just can’t seem to break through to that next level.

If this resonates with you, I’m going to tell you something that might sting a little at first, but it comes from a place of love:

You don’t need a virtual assistant. You don’t need someone to “help with your social media.” And you definitely don’t need to spend hours in Canva making cute graphics.

Here’s why: having pretty graphics and spending your time on aesthetics isn’t going to bring in sales. What you actually need is lead generation and sales support. Because without leads and sales, you don’t have a business—you have a hobby.

In this post, I’m going to walk you through what you really need to focus on if you’re making under $100K, why your mindset around sales might be holding you back, and how working smarter (not harder) will help you hit your revenue goals faster.

Why You Don’t Need a Virtual Assistant or a Social Media Manager

When you’re feeling overwhelmed, it’s easy to think that hiring someone to help with administrative tasks or social media will solve all your problems. But here’s the truth: if you’re making less than $100K, you likely don’t have enough leads or sales to warrant hiring help.

Sure, a VA or social media manager might save you time, but if you’re not generating consistent revenue, that time isn’t translating into growth. What you really need is to focus on building relationships and mastering lead generation and sales.

Instead of outsourcing, invest your time in these activities:

1. Find Warm Leads in Online Communities

Join Facebook groups, LinkedIn communities, or other online spaces where your ideal clients hang out. Instead of posting generic promotional content, search for posts where people are already self-identifying as having the problem you solve.

When someone says, “I’m struggling with X,” that’s your opportunity to step in and provide value.

2. Start Genuine Conversations

When you find those warm leads, respond with helpful advice or tips. Then take it a step further: send them a direct message, and if you want to stand out, send a voice message.

A voice message feels personal and authentic. It immediately builds trust and sets you apart from the sea of copy-paste DMs flooding their inbox.

Here’s what happens when you do this: ✨ You show that you genuinely care about solving their problem. ✨ You position yourself as an authority in your space. ✨ You start building relationships, which are the foundation of any successful business.

If You’re Struggling to See Yourself as a “Salesperson”

Here’s another common mindset block I see in entrepreneurs who are under $100K: they don’t think of themselves as salespeople.

Let me tell you something: whether you have a product, a service, or you’re a personal brand, you are always selling something.

✨ You’re selling your expertise.

✨ You’re selling your value.

✨ You’re selling the solution to someone’s problem.

If the word “salesperson” makes you cringe, it’s time to reframe your perspective. Sales isn’t about being pushy or sleazy—it’s about rising to the call of action and offering a solution that your audience genuinely needs.

When you know your product or service can change someone’s life, it becomes your responsibility to share it. You can’t make an impact if no one knows what you have to offer.

The REAL Priorities for Entrepreneurs Under $100K

If you’re making less than $100K, here’s where your focus needs to be:

  1. Build Relationships: Show up authentically and connect with your audience on a deeper level.

  2. Generate Leads: Focus on finding warm leads who already need what you offer.

  3. Master Sales: Learn how to communicate your value effectively and close deals with confidence.

These are the foundational skills that will set you up for long-term success.

Why Working with a Coach Can Make All the Difference

I get it—this is easier said than done. Building relationships, generating leads, and mastering sales takes time, energy, and the right strategy.

That’s where working with a coach comes in. A coach isn’t just someone who gives you a pep talk—they’re someone who helps you:

✨ Overcome confidence and imposter syndrome.

✨ Learn how to sell without feeling “salesy.”

✨ Stop procrastinating by giving you a clear action plan (bye busy work).

✨ Focus on the right activities that create real progress in your business.

When you have someone in your corner who knows how to get results, it’s like having a shortcut to success.

Stop Playing Small and Step Into Your Authority

If you’re feeling overwhelmed and stuck, it’s not because you can’t handle the workload. It’s because you’re growing and stretching into the next-level version of yourself.

Lean into the discomfort. Focus on the right activities. And watch what happens when you start showing up as the authority you’re meant to be.
